Vanity Fair named the bistro as one of 42 top dining spots in the world and one of the best that Auckland has to offer. It is a smaller dining venue with just fourteen tables in its main dining room. It also offers a private dining area, called the Corner Room, that can accommodate an additional 26 people. The bistro is open for lunch, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and for dinner Monday through Saturday, from 5:30 p.m. Reservations are required. It is the only Auckland restaurant to receive the Award of Excellence from New York's Wine Spectator, for the last 12 years. Popular dishes served here include the steak tartare, braised wild rabbit, scotch fillet steak, chicken liver parfait, the watercress walnut pesto and pappardelle fettuccine.
Soul Bar and Bistro
The Soul Bar and Bistro (soulbar.co.nz) is an award-winning restaurant located in Auckland's Viaduct Harbour district. In 2012, the restaurant was named as one of the Top 50 finalists in the Cuisine NZ Restaurant of the Year Awards and as one of the Metro Top 50 restaurants in Auckland. Its enclosed dining terrace is a favorite with patrons as it faces to the west enabling views of every sunset. This bistro uses fresh ingredients, including local fish caught in its very own harbour. Ponsonby Road Bistro
Named as a 2012 finalist in the Cuisine NZ Restaurant of the Year Awards, Ponsonby Road Bistro (ponsonbyroadbistro.co.nz) is a relatively young restaurant that combines sophistication with simplicity, in an informal environment. This bistro offers daily specials to its customers, as well as an ever-changing menu and wine list of local and international brands. Popular menu items include the daily shellfish, daily market fish, char-grilled steak, grilled chicken kabobs, chicken liver pate and duck confit salad. The restaurant recommends calling for reservations. It is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. until late and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until late.
Also located in Viaduct's Harbour, Degree Gastrobar (degree.co.nz) offers a variety of menu items that are stone-grilled. Stone-grilling is defined as "a healthy cooking method upon a hot volcanic rock via each party's table." Picture yourself dining within panoramic views of the local harbour, where super yachts are cruising by. Then your food is served to you while still sizzling on a stone grill, so you know it is always fresh and served hot. While the Degree Gastrobar is a popular business lunch establishment during the week, it also serves as a weekend party environment providing live music on the weekends. Patrons may eat inside the main dining room, in its outdoor dining area or in its private event room. Popular menu items for this restaurant include its seafood platter, tapas platter, bruschetta, lamb skewers, banana prawns, the "Degree" burger, and variety of gourmet pizzas and quesadillas. Degree Gastrobar's hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to late, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to late. Reservations are not required.
