Birmingham Airport is working with the UK government to allow flights from ‘red list’ destinations to operate providing they arrive in a dedicated terminal. The news comes as it was announced last month that London Heathrow Terminal 3 would act as a dedicated ‘red list’ terminal.
Commenting on the trial which starts in June, the Department of Transport said:
"Direct flights will be permitted to England from countries on the ‘red list’ that were previously subject to flight bans, so long as they arrive at dedicated terminals at Heathrow and Birmingham airports.
The requirement for these direct flights to arrive at dedicated facilities will help keep more red list passengers separate from others, helping to ensure they are processed as safely and efficiently as possible and then travel straight to their managed quarantine hotel and reduce queues at the border.”
At present it is not known which flights will be permitted as part of the trail, but we will update our information as soon as possible.
