England’s latest quarantine and testing rules for arrivals from 15th February

Keeping up to date with the latest travel rules and regulations surrounding coronavirus can be overwhelming and confusing. The below information provides a detailed oversight of England’s latest quarantine and testing rules for all arrivals from 15th February. Please do not hesitate to contact our experienced team who can offer you well-informed advice and assist you if you or a traveller is personally impacted.

As of 15th February, all passengers arriving to England outside of the Common Travel Area must self-isolate for 10 days and take a COVID-19 test on day two and day eight of quarantine. If a passenger is arriving from one of the government’s 33 banned ‘red list’ countries, they must quarantine in a government-appointed hotel, please see below for further details.

Before travelling to England, passengers must:

  • take a COVID-19 test and receive a negative result within 72 hours before travel
  • book and pay for a travel test package for COVID-19 tests on day two and day eight of quarantine
  • complete a passenger locator form – the quarantine address and travel test package booking reference number is required to complete the form

Passengers travelling from the Common Travel Area (the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands) do not need a test before arrival or need to quarantine at home after arrival if they have not left the Common Travel Area in the last 10 days.

Passengers arriving from a banned ‘red list’ country

From 15th February onwards, all UK and Irish nationals or permanent residents who have visited or travelled through a ‘red list’ banned country in the last 10 days before their arrival will need to quarantine in a government-appointed hotel for a 10-day period. The full list of ‘red list’ banned countries can be found here. Non-UK nationals and residents are currently banned from travelling to the UK from these countries.

Before travelling to England from a ‘red-list’ country, passengers must:

  • take a COVID-19 test and receive a negative result within 72 hours before travel
  • book a managed quarantine hotel package where the traveller will self-isolate for 10 days – the hotel package will include accommodation, transport, food, security and a travel test package for COVID-19 tests on day two and day eight of quarantine
  • complete a passenger locator form – the quarantine package booking reference number is required to complete the form

Further details on booking a quarantine hotel can be found here.

At present, passengers required to quarantine in a managed hotel can only arrive at certain points of entry, these include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Birmingham and Farnborough Airfield. It is the passenger’s responsibility to book and pay for the hotel quarantine package.
