The travel landscape is ever-changing, but the impact that COVID-19 would have on travellers and the world was somewhat underestimated.
As a business, our focus continues to be our clients, who are at the epicentre of everything we do, and on the wellbeing of our wonderful team who have shown incredible commitment. In the face of constant change, I remain positive and focussed on being agile and ready for whatever may occur in the coming months. As the saying goes, we may not all be in the same boat, but we are all in the same storm, and we must do all we can to help each other. What can we do to support you right now?
We would love to help you adapt to this new ever-changing world of business travel.
I would also like to share my first-hand experience of travelling during this pandemic. I booked a holiday to Turkey in the middle of the August, not only to experience the impact and changes to our travel for myself; but also to give myself a break and some much-needed time to mentally digest what has happened so far. Travel for me is not just my business, it also plays a big part in my life and wellbeing, so as soon as I noticed a slot, and it was safe to do, I jumped at the chance to get on a plane!
As you can no doubt imagine I had mixed emotions before departing.
To give you a short précis of my experience:
- Airport lounges – A few of the lounges were open at both Gatwick and Antalya airports, but the food choices were extremely limited and there was no table service.
- Boarding & disembarking – Both were staggered to allow for social distancing. On disembarking passengers were asked to remain in their seats until asked to stand.
- PPE – The use of face masks was absolutely mandatory for everyone on-board throughout the flight. We were reminded every 15 minutes to cover both our nose and mouth.
- Social distancing on the aircraft – non-existent!
- Trolley service – The stewards were limited to a single trolley service during the flight.
- Temperature checks - Our temperature was checked three times a day at the hotel.
- Social distancing measures - A one-way system was implemented on hotel grounds.
- Hygiene measures - There was evidence of stringent cleanliness protocols being adhered to in all areas of the hotel.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the precautions taken, and I will definitely travel again as soon as it is practical to do so.
