Heathrow airport has capped passenger numbers until September to 100,000 daily passengers. Predictions have shown there could be up to 104,000 passengers before the cap.
John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow CEO, commented in an open letter to passengers that the airport has made “the difficult decision to introduce a capacity cap with effect from (July 12) until September 11”.
The airport estimates “the maximum number of daily departing passengers that airlines, airline ground handlers and the airport can collectively serve over the summer is no more than 100,000.”
As the forecasts indicate the daily departing passenger numbers over the summer will average 104,000, there will be a “daily excess of 4,000 seats.”
As a result, it is likely airlines will be continuing to cancel flights. If you have a flight scheduled in the coming days, we highly recommend that you check with your airline online for any changes or cancellations.
