The IATA Travel Pass, which incorporates traveller’s passport details, Covid test results and entry forms on a mobile app, has been successfully trialled at London Heathrow Airport by Finnair.
Finnair is the latest airline to trial the IATA Travel Pass app on flights between Helsinki and London Heathrow. The trial started on 14th July and is running until 11th August. The all-in-one pass could be used to help reduce long wait times and queues at the border hall controls and ensure a smoother journey for customers.
The IATA Travel Pass is a mobile application that helps travellers to store and manage their verified certifications for COVID-19 tests or vaccination certificates. This will be important for governments which are likely to require either verified testing or vaccination proof as a condition of international travel during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The mobile app allows passengers to add a digital version of their passport along with Covid test results/vaccination status and any entry forms so everything is in one place and can easily be checked by border control.
Travellers can also find accurate information on travel, testing and vaccination requirements for their journey on the app, and all related travel documents will be managed safely and securely.
Commenting on the launch Finnair’s Chief Commerical Officer, Ole Orvér, said:
“We look forward to hearing our customers’ thoughts on the new solution to decide our next steps with it… We are also exploring other digital solutions to ease travelling and coronavirus related travel document management… The industry is in need for current protocols to be replaced with more effective, digital solutions to simplify coronavirus travel procedures.”
