The government has block-booked thousands of hotel rooms in anticipation of at least 1,000 daily arrivals who will be required to quarantine for ten days. It is understood the majority of hotels being booked are near airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
All arrivals from the high-risk countries will be met at the airport or point of entry and taken directly to the hotel quarantine facility. The government announced that it will be the passenger's responsibility to cover the cost of the hotel quarantine which has been estimated to cost £1,750. This figures includes the accommodation, transfers from the airport and testing costs.
