We recently issued a press release highlighting the outstanding dedication Mark Kempster, Managing Director, had put into raising funds for Plan International by organising a 4 day walking challenge accompanied by fellow Director, Thomas Kempster [view previous press release here: CT Business Travel On Track To Raise Over £100,000 for Plan International with 170km walk]
Mark comments on his part in organising and taking part in this event:
“I loved organising the challenge for my group of Uniglobe colleagues and it was great to see everyone taking part in this event. We certainly had our highs and our lows; as walking from Dover to London in four days is no mean feat (no pun intended)! The days were made enjoyable by the company we had and the great scenes Kent has to offer. We have raised almost £100k over the three events I have organised and the hardest part now seems to be the final push to reach our target”

The challenge in focus:
Pre challenge - The night before commencing their challenge, Mark and the other participants travelled to Dover for an overnight stay.
Day 1 – Carrying everything they needed for the walk and overnight accommodation, the team set out at 7am from Dover towards Chilham with the aim of covering around 40km by 8pm.
Day 2 – After achieving their mileage aims on Day 1 and reaching Chilham, the team set out at 7am to cover the 40km distance to Detling by 7pm.
Day 3 – More than a little bit weary the team departed Detling for Snodland in transportation to start their days’ walking at 7am from Snodland to Dartford – covering around 39km by 8pm.
Day 4 – On the final day of their challenge the team set out from Dartford at 7am, aiming to reach London Bridge at 8pm. They achieved this and took some fantastic photos.
Tom comments on his thoughts after completing the challenge:
“The walk was very enjoyable, we had great weather (although sometimes it was a bit too hot), but there is no doubt this was a big challenge. I loved the contrasts of the changing scenery and the opportunity to walk the ancient paths and tracks of our forebears. I was surprised at some of the views as well: they were some of the best I have seen from the top of the Downs. The final day was the toughest; walking the hard paths of London, but going past old decaying docks and incredibly historic sites made it very interesting. We were all very relieved to reach Tower Bridge in the end! Now I need a year’s break until the next challenge!”

About Plan International’s Because I Am a Girl campaign:
This campaign aims to support four million girls worldwide to stay in education and fulfil their potential: every day girls worldwide are denied an education by poverty, conflict and discrimination and Plan International believes this is a huge waste of potential as well as an injustice. Plan produces an annual report assessing the State of the World’s Girls which provides evidence and recommendations for action to support girls’ rights: http://issuu.com/planinternationaluk/docs/biaag_2013_report/15?e=0
