Mark Kempster, Managing Director at Uniglobe CT Business Travel has organised a 4 day walking challenge from the 12th-15th June. Mark will be accompanied on the challenge by his co-Director, and brother, Thomas Kempster.
Mark comments on his part in organising this event:
“I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of organising and taking part in these events. To walk 170km over 4 days is certainly going to be a challenge but it’s one that the team involved is looking forward to embracing and excelling at! I’m passionate about supporting this great cause by raising awareness and funds; and am proud of the contribution that the team have made so far.”
This challenge will involve 170km of walking from Dover to London Bridge in aid of Plan International’s Because I Am a Girl campaign. Mark and Tom will be joined by the Uniglobe Travel International’s British Isles team in this event, some of whom will also be cycling from London to Paris prior to the walk. The team has so far raised around £93,000 through various challenges this year and are hoping to achieve £100,000 of funds raised in 2014 – so they are on their final push with just £7000 left to go!
Tom’s thoughts on taking part in this event:
“To prepare for this challenge I have been walking and running (including dragging my colleagues out for a run every Wednesday lunchtime!). I love the Kent countryside and know many of the areas well, but I am looking forward to seeing it change and unfold; from the garden of England into sprawling urban, industrial and then business city scape as we enter London, at a different pace, from almost the mouth of the Thames; though it’s fair to say I am slightly daunted by the miles we have to cover and carrying all that we need on our backs. I’m proud to be involved in a challenge that makes such a difference to this great charity!”
CT Business Travel has been a member of Uniglobe Travel International since 2008 and last spring was awarded the Special Contribution to Plan International Award in recognition of Mark’s contribution to the Inca Trail challenge in October 2012 and the Kilimanjaro Challenge in 2010. About Plan International’s Because I Am a Girl campaign:
This campaign aims to support four million girls worldwide to stay in education and fulfil their potential: every day girls worldwide are denied an education by poverty, conflict and discrimination and Plan International believes this is a huge waste of potential as well as an injustice. Plan produces an annual report assessing the State of the World’s Girls which provides evidence and recommendations for action to support girls’ rights: http://issuu.com/planinternationaluk/docs/biaag_2013_report/15?e=0
