The main considerations and requirements for UK travellers include:
You must check the entry requirements for your chosen destination before you travel. Check the entry requirements for your destination country on the GOV.UK foreign travel advice pages. You may be required to evidence your COVID-19 vaccination status and/or show a negative PCR test result.
Ensure you book COVID tests and complete relevant documentation (such as Passenger Locator Forms) for your destination.
Ensure you book the required testing and/or quarantine packages for your return to the UK before you travel. For more information on packages click here.
Travellers may require their COVID-19 vaccination status (either via the app or in paper format).
You can check how to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status here.
You will need to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test within 48 hours of your return journey to England. Anyone testing positive prior to travel will not be permitted to travel back into England, will be required to follow local rules for isolation – you could incur additional costs during this period.
All passengers entering the UK are required to complete a ‘Passenger Locator’ form before arrival. The form must be completed and submitted within 48 hours of arriving into the UK. Passengers will need to show the form when checking in to travel. The passenger locator form can be found here.
With regards to international travel, the UK government will classify countries as either ‘open to travel’ or on the red list
Each destination will be categorised depending on several factors including the country’s vaccination programme, the rate of infection, the prevalence of variants of concern and the access to reliable scientific data.

Open To Travel Countries
A list of the most up to date ‘open to travel’ countries can be found here. The government have also stated that they will provide advance warning to travellers if it is likely that a country will move to the red list.
Red List Countries
A list of the most up to date red countries can be found here.
The government advises against all travel to red list countries. Only UK nationals or permanent residents will be allowed entry if you have travelled to a red list country in the past 10 days.
All UK arrivals from red list countries will need to self-isolate in a government appointed hotel for 10 days. For more information on booking testing and hotel quarantine packages, click here.
Travellers can prove their vaccination status either using the main NHS app or with an official NHS letter. You must have had two weeks pass since your second dose of the vaccine to be eligible.
Passengers returning to England will also be asked to include their vaccination status on their Passenger Locator Form. Airlines and other transport carriers will check that a passenger's form is correct before they board.
